Pince-nez 3 Handsome young USA army officer in 1917 wearing a classic rimless fingerpiece pince-nez on the bridge of his nose. Pince-nez was the recommend eyewear for soldiers because of the easy use with gas masks. Introduced in the early 1900's, the fingerpiece was revolutionary in design. The fixed bridge, combined with spring nose guard grips which had tiny levers or fingerpieces which extended out and over the "straps" containing the lens screws, meant the pince-nez could be clipped on the bridge of the nose by using just the thumb and index finger. The "fingerpiece" pince-nez quickly became the most popular and stylish type of eyewear during the 1910's especially for younger people. The look of elegant simplicity is timeless.
